Utah Half Update August 17 2012

Utah Half Ironman - RaceTri August 25,2012

WETSUITS NOT ALLOWED (Most Likely)

Water Temp is currently 82 degrees and getting warmer. Currently as the temp stands if you wear a wetsuit you will not be eligible for awards and if the water heats up to 84 degrees by race day no one will be allowed to wear a wetsuit. Please prepare accordingly. (Suggested you plan on a no wetsuit race).

BIKE

We have several officers stationed around the course so you should be able to move freely across public roads. However, if the officer at any intersection directs you to stop, you must obey him. Additionally as you approach intersections in the more rural areas of our race course, if there is no officer there proceed with caution – and when in doubt follow the rules of the road. We can’t possibly put an officer at every corner for 56 miles of biking.

AID STATIONS

Mile 14 Gatorade Bottles for the bike, Water in squeeze bottles, (Hammer Heed and GEL Available)

Mile 28 Drop Bags — A black garbage bag with your race number will be provided in your packet. On race morning if you like, you can bring your drop bag to our volunteers. The volunteers will take your drop bag to the mile 28 turn around. They will be prepared to find it for you as you approach and call out your bib number. Athletes must be very cautious at the turn around, some of you will be going straight (an extra 100 feet or so) to get your drop bags. Those without any special needs drop bag or those choosing to continue on without stopping for the drop bag will be turning. Remember good communication and turn slowly, – in 2011 a bike to bike wreck resulting in hospitalization occurred. We are not trying to add any anxiety to your pre-race routine here, we just want you to red flag this as an area to be extremely cautious and to slow down.

    1. Now that somebody drown on the Utah lake yesterday, will we be allowed to wear our wetsuits,,I think is matter of safety, since the lake gets waves because it is not deep and when it gets windy.

      1. Also, to add to George’s comment, I found it odd that a friend of the victim “suffered from hypothermia” so I checked the current water temps and it hasn’t been updated since 8.8; almost 2 weeks ago! Still 82 degrees??
