THE ICE BREAKER 5KNot ready for a triathlon yet? That’s ok! Join us for the 5K Run only event. The run course will follow the same route as the triathlon run course. The event will start at the same time as the triathlon. While the triathletes are swimming the runners will begin their race. This event is a fundraiser opportunity for local school sport programs, we thank you for your support! Register by HERE
The race sold out last year, register early to secure your spot.
SWIM: 300 meter INDOOR pool swim. Time Trial Start. Participants will be seeded according to their estimated swim time for a 300 meter swim. The swim will be done in a serpentine fashion as participants will do one length in each lane of the pool, go under the lane lines, and continue on. Racers will be started on approximately 5 second intervals to reduce congestion.
The RACE ISSUED SWIM CAP MUST BE WORN If you are not wearing the race issued swim cap you will not be allowed to race. Thank you for your cooperation in this regard, it is a security measure to discourage bandit runners. The kids race will be 100 meters.
TRANSITION AREA/FINISH LINE: The TA will open at 8:00AM and position will be on a first come first serve basis. BIKE: The bike is a TWO LOOP course – each loop is approximately 6 miles. RUN: The run course travels along the same course as the bike, but is shortened to 5k. The below map also doubles as the KIDS BIKE course. KIDS RUN: The run course is approximately 1 mile.
The adult race will start at 10:00 a.m. with a pre-race meeting at 9:15AM in the transition area. Please be prompt. The AF Fitness Center has had problems in the past with too many people using the bathroom facilities. The water pressure eventually gets low enough that the toilets won’t flush. To eleviate this problem we will have portable toilets available. We encourage athletes to use these. We will have a table for eye glasses just inside the bubble. Please use this only for that purpose. It will be marked.
TIMING CHIPS & BODY MARKING Timing Chips can be picked up race morning. When you pick up your timing chip make sure you know your race number and are issued the corresponding timing chip. Body Markings will consist of your number being written in black marker on your arm along with your age written on your calf. In addition a 0-5 will be marked on your hand. Please tell the body markers your swim time for 300 meters based on a 0-5 scale. See Below
START & HAND MARKING Your hand will be marked with 0-5 based on your 300 meter swim split:0 Sub 5:00 1 5:00 – 5:30 2 5:30 – 6:00 3 6:00 – 6:30 4 6:30 – 7:30 5 7:30 and Over
As the race begins athletes will line up according to their swim number, the more accurate athletes can be the less congestion in the pool. As you enter the pool be sure to cross over the timing mat this will engage the timing chip around your ankle. Enter the pool feet first – NO DIVING.
SWIM CAPS A swim cap will be issued in every packet and MUST BE worn during the swim portion of the race. We will be enforcing this at the start line, NO CAP, NO RACE. This is done as a security measure to discourage bandits.
SAME DAY SIGN UPS There are NO RACE DAY sign ups.
VOLUNTEERS We still need volunteers. If you know someone who will be at the race cheering you on and they can lend a helping hand with front row race action as a volunteer please have them contact: email@example.com
